Job Opening: Structured Literacy Coach

Support schools requesting coaching to implement Structured Literacy aligned with the statewide literacy initiative and NM Public Education Department (NMPED) efforts. Provide in-person and virtual (synchronous and asynchronous) coaching, develop and deliver professional learning on evidence-based Structured Literacy practices, and, where trained, facilitate LETRS (3rd Edition) professional learning for schools and REC member districts. .

The Role

  • Coach & Mentor: Support teachers and administrators in research-based literacy practices and the Science of Reading.
  • Train: Facilitate professional learning sessions and conduct monthly observation/feedback cycles.
  • Analyze: Use data to set schoolwide literacy goals and monitor student growth.
  • Align: Ensure curriculum and instruction meet ELA CCSS and WIDA ELD standards.

Required Qualifications for Position:

  • Valid NM Teaching License (Level 2 or 3)
  • Bachelor’s degree in education and advanced coursework or professional development in the science of reading, multisensory language instruction
  • LETRS-certification or accredited structured literacy certification
  • Reading Endorsement or Certification or eligibility for a reading endorsement or certification
  • Expertise in Structured Literacy

Preferred Requirements

  • Masters’ degree in a related education field, to include:
  • Educational Administration, Elementary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Reading, etc.
  • Certified Academic Language Therapist

Shape the Future of New Mexico Education: Call for Peer Reviewers

The Southwest Regional Education Cooperative (SWREC), on behalf of the New Mexico Public Education Commission, is seeking qualified professionals to evaluate new charter school applications for the 2026 cycle.

We are looking for dedicated individuals—including teachers, administrators, business officials, and policy experts—to ensure that only the highest quality schools are authorized to serve New Mexico’s students.

Why Join the Review Team?

  • Impact: Play a critical role in ensuring educational excellence and accountability.

  • Compensation: * $200 for the mandatory May 8th training.

    • $2,600 per application (includes scoring the written application and conducting the capacity interview).

    • Leadership stipends available for Team Leads $1,500 per application, and the Peer Coordinator will receive an additional $2,000 per application to reflect their added responsibilities, including facilitating team meetings and reviewing applicant responses.

  • Flexibility: Conduct reviews and interviews virtually from June through July.

What We’re Looking For

Ideal candidates possess a background in charter school operations, governance, or authorizing. You must be available to commit 60–80 hours per application and maintain strict confidentiality and objectivity throughout the process.

Are you an experienced educator looking to support your peers in their professional journey?

Multiple positions available!
The Advance Program Level (APL) micro-credentials support Level 1 teachers advancing to Level 2 and Level 2 teachers advancing to Level 3 through a competency-based process of stacked courses. Each micro-credential is supported by an assigned facilitator (APL I-II) or a reviewer (APL II-III) to guide and mentor the educator through the content.

Applicants are required to be experienced Level III teachers. These positions support, mentor, and facilitate advancement for Level 1 teachers and Level 2 teachers as they work toward their Level II or Level III teaching licenses. Please apply for the Micro-Credential Facilitator position online.
